First Bible book in Shor welcomed with tears of joy

xxxxxx NAMN på BILD“The Shor people weep for joy as they read Mark’s Gospel! They are saying: God has begun to speak our language!” Pastor Andrei from Tashtagol was one of the many speakers at the presentation of the first Bible book in Shor in Novokuznetsk in southern Siberia on 24 June. Pastors and priests from other churches took part in the ceremony, as well as newspaper and television correspondents, representatives of the local authorities, delegates from Shor cultural organisations, and teachers and students from the Shor Language Institute at the University.

They all expressed their appreciation to IBT for the publication of Mark’s Gospel. One member of the translation team said: “During the two hours that the presentation lasted it felt as if our translation was uniting these people, regardless of age, profession or faith. Many of the non-Christians spoke of the translation’s importance for Shor spiritual and cultural development and suggested that the book be used in Shor schools.”

Mark’s Gospel was ready in April, and distribution has already begun. One pastor related how the regional boss in Novokuznetsk helps to transport the books to remote areas by helicopter. He delivers them personally to the administrative leaders in each Shor village, as well as to libraries and schools. The authorities have included the distribution of Mark’s Gospel in their travel plans for the year!
