I haven't dared tell anyone at home…

Nadja (not her real name) is one of 11 children in a family belonging to a minority group in the CIS. "Even as a young child, I began searching for the meaning of life", Nadja relates. "I wanted so much to be good, but I had a very bad temper. I often wondered if there was a place somewhere out in space where there was no sin, and how one could get there."

"There was a public bookstand in our city that was used as a library. One day I discovered a beautiful blue book there, a Children's Bible in Russian. I borrowed it and enjoyed looking at the lovely pictures and reading the stories. But I had to keep my reading a secret because my parents were very strict Muslims."

After completing her university studies, Nadja began working as a teacher of her native language. She attended a social event and met a foreign woman who asked for help to learn Nadja's language. Eventually Nadja was invited to this woman's church and was impressed by the warmth and friendship that she experienced there. Nadja says "I couldn't get the experience out of my mind, so I returned to the church because I knew I would find what I had been seeking – it was a place where God would be found."

"It is forbidden for our people to abandon the Muslim faith. For that reason I was planning to flee from my country since I had become a Christian," said Nadja. "But God gave me strength to remain at home."

Presently, God is using Nadja as a translator in her mother tongue. "I still haven't dared tell anyone at home about my Christian faith or to share about the translation of the Bible," continues Nadja. "I know it is not the right time yet, but I'm certain our people will find the way to God when the Bible is available in our language!"
